2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse arrives with 500 horsepower

The seventh-generation 2024 Ford Mustang is slated to arrive next summer. And while the EcoBoost and GT models return without any really big changes under the hood, there’s one new version that we’re all excited about – the Mustang Dark Horse.

The 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse is a track focused version of the GT. It borrows parts from both the Shelby GT450 and GT500 models, like its lightweight carbon-fiber wheels.

Under the hood the Dark Horse is powered by a modified version of the Coyote 5.0-liter V8. Compared to the GT, the Coyote gets forged internal components and connecting rods from the GT500’s Predator V8. Ford says that the Dark Horse’s engine will have 500 horsepower, which means that it will be the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 that Ford has ever built.

The V8 can be mated to either a Tremec six-speed manual or a 10-speed automatic transmission and both transmissions are mated to a Torsen limited-slip differential. The Dark Horse also gets MagneRide adaptive dampers, and 19-inch wheels that are wrapped in Pirelli P Zero PZ4 summer tires. Stopping power is provided by Brembo six-piston fixed front calipers. The optional Handling package adds Pirelli P Zero Trofeo RS tires, beefier front and rear sway bars, stiffer springs, and a unique rear wing with a Gurney flap.

The Mustang Dark Horse stands out from the GT with its unique front fascia with bigger grille apertures, smoked headlights and taillights, a large rear wing and Dark Horse badges. The rear bumper also gets a bigger diffuser that’s flanked by quad-tipped tailpipes. The Mustang Dark Horse is also available in an exclusive Blue Ember metallic paint.

Inside the Dark Horse stands out with its special blue interior accents and dark metallic trim. An Appearance package adds Deep Indigo Blue seats.
