ODSS Outlaw Diesel Revenge Results

The Ultimate Callout Challenge is the premiere event in the diesel-performance world. Held annually at Lucas Oil Raceway in Brownsburg, Indiana, UCC brings diesel’s proverbial “big dogs” together for a showdown on the drag strip, chassis dyno and sled-pull track, with the overall winner recognized by all as the baddest truck and driver in the U.S.

Outlaw Diesel Super Series racers shared the stage with UCC competitors from May 21 to May 23, 2021, as Firepunk Diesel’s Outlaw Diesel Revenge–the sanction’s second points race of the 2021 season–was also held on the first half of the fabled quarter-mile known simply as “Indy.”

Although racing was excellent across the board (there even were two cars in the Pro Dragster class), we have to give strong nods of acknowledgement to racers competing in our ATS Diesel Performance/Diesel Power Magazine 7.70 Index category, and the Firepunk Diesel Outlaw 5.90 Index class. Each had an impressive number of racers (40 trucks in 7.70, and a total of 17 rigs in 5.90), and competition was absolutely fierce in both eliminators (13 trucks qualified with a 5.9x e.t. ).

Also very impressive was the performance of Tyler Burkhard (who confessed that he “really likes drag racing” during a post-event interview). Tyler won both the Drag Racing segment of UCC, and also took the very tough Hot Shot’s Secret Pro Street class on the ODSS side.

In sidebar action Friday night, and with one-thousand bucks and the coveted S&S Diesel Motorsport grudge belt on the line, Nathan Wheeler of Team Crazyhorse and Gault, California’s Rick Fletes, squared off in a Chevy versus Ford battle of long haulers. Rick’s OG Chevelle moved a little too quickly and lit the red light, handing the win to Nathan’s big Super Duty.

As UCC highlights go, Todd Welch’s quest to push Power Driven Diesel’s triple-turbocharged, Cummins-powered rig into the 3,000hp zone–and the massive explosion that resulted from that effort–hands’ down was the most spectacular occurrence of the weekend.

However, Todd’s big bang cannot overshadow Justin Zeigler’s performance at UCC. Sticking to a plan of being consistent across all segments, Justin finished in Second Place in the Drag Race (5.3-second e.t. ), First on the all-important chassis dyno (2,443.6hp and 3,282.7 lb-ft of torque), and “well enough” (290.35 feet) with his sled pull, to capture the overall Ultimate Callout Challenge 2021 title.

With action happening all over the Lucas Oil property, the Ultimate Callout Challenge and Diesel Performance Industry (DPI) expo’s return after the one-year absence was a great success. Now, the ODSS now moves on to Dinwiddie, Virginia, for Hollyrock Customs’ Summer Diesel Showdown II at Virginia Motorsports Park, June 25 and 26, 2021.
